Lack of dough doesn’t have to turn you into a Scrooge this season. These hot gifts are sure to please, and, best of all, are all under $20!

BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND

Spend: This is a tough call and depends on your relationship. But remember that the best gifts come from the heart, not the wallet.

A gift practically guaranteed to be fun and original is an underwear gram from WebUndies.com, where “It’s not just underwear, it’s fun to wear!” Lots of styles are available for guys and gals, including “I’ve been naughty” letters to Santa and reindeer face boxers by Joe Boxer, $18 each.

The sweetest and best gifts have special meaning to you both. Make a CD of your favorite songs, a tape or DVD of your favorite TV shows and movies, or a calendar with pictures of you both. The photo altering machines at CVS stores nationwide will allow you to make copies of a photo without negatives, and even reduce redeye, refocus, or adjust the size and color of the picture.

FRIENDS

Spend: $10-20

Chances are, your friends are just as stressed about finding gifts and saving money as you are. Instead of exchanging with all of your friends, get a group together and have each person randomly draw one person’s name. Secret Santas should drop clues to their identity throughout the season. Then, get your whole group together for a fun holiday shindig to guess Secret Santas and exchange gifts!

Check out www.livejournal.com to set up a completely free account for you and your friends to keep in touch and write fun things to each other online. Write the first entry and set up usernames and passwords for all your friends. Make a crafty card or certificate for each person with their password and instructions, and give a gift they’ll enjoy long after the stockings are emptied and the New Year has begun.

Give things you can do together, like tickets to a club, concert or movie and dessert. For a list of upcoming events in your area, enter your zip code at Ticketmaster.com.

SIBLINGS

Spend: $20

Go to Hersheys.com to order a card made out of their world-famous pure chocolate. They’ll even write a personalized message in chocolate on top. Cards average about $17.95 each.

Old Navy pajama Just Bottoms for $16.50, come in neat holiday prints and are perfect for cold winter nights or just hanging out at home or in the dorm. Find a store near you or order online at www.OldNavy.com.

PARENTS

Spend: $50 collectively or $30 each

There’s no better way to say “Thanks for using your life savings to send me to college” than giving your parents the chance to make some of it back! Buy one share of stock in an upstart company where you won’t have to invest a lot (often as little as $5) and half the fun will be just watching it grow (we hope!) Most company websites have the 4-1-1 on their stock options.

A gift your parents are likely to find very sentimental are those UCLA Mom or Notre Dame Dad shirts and mugs from your college bookstore. You probably won’t get great value for your money here, but it’ll be worth every penny when you find out that dad wears his sweatshirt every day.

One that won’t-cost-a-cent and sure to-be-a-tearjerker gift is a family tree. Make one out of a large piece of canvas or even cardboard. If you can, ask your grandparents or older relatives for help with names and dates, and if you’re feeling really ambitious, pictures.
