Form a Posse

No one succeeds in isolation. If you bounce most of your ideas off the pizza delivery guy, you need to wake up and smell the pepperoni. It’s time to form a mastermind group, your very own posse dedicated to the success of your business.
Pioneered by Napoleon Hill, author of the classic, Think & Grow Rich, mastermind groups are designed to harness the creativity, intelligence, and resources of the entire group toward the goal of each individual member of the group. Think of it like The Three Musketeers, only with different goals…and good hygiene.
Cultivating a group that has that all-for-one, one-for-all mentality does wonders for your business. Not only do you have a posse of like-minded people who serve as ambassadors of your company and keepers of your dream, you also have people to help you brainstorm new ideas and innovative solutions that surpass what you could come up with on your own.
In reference to the power of mastermind groups Hill wrote, “No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind.” (Bonus!) It’s like creating your own Jedi council, one that fights against the dark side of entrepreneurialism: self-doubt, procrastination, and ego.
There are countless mastermind groups looking for new members, some are free, some are not. I say, start your own. You know the type of people you want to attract who may have the insight and resources you need to take your business to the next level. Call ‘em up.
Assemble a diverse group of trustworthy men and women who are super motivated, and then commit to meeting at least once a month, although once a week is ideal. Then hang on, because these groups are magical, creating that intangible force for good that will absolutely blow your mind.
I’ve seen it happen time after time, and I’ve experienced it firsthand in my own group. When you have a great crew that really gets it you can move faster and better. You can pull off astonishing feats, reach impossible goals…heck, you may even be able to move a spaceship out of a swamp with your mind. Of course, you would need a spaceship for that. But I’m sure your posse can help you find one.
Step it up. Commit to your own success by allowing others in. Form the posse. Start planning. Sync up your Blackberry’s and get matching tattoos. (OK, maybe not. You’re not that cool.)
