I was hoping to glean some inside information about what it takes to start a studio. Unfortunately, I already knew the things he was talking about. The key element (that's just glossed over in this article) is the acquisition of equipment. I possess the knowledge, having done this for over 25 years, but I cannot raise the money required for the equipment. That's a crucial step that's not even discussed.

Hickamo Shine:

This all depends on what kind of music you'd like to record. Nowadays it's almost impossible to find a studio or a project studio without a computer. For now I run a PC but it's recommended that you use a Mac for programs like Protools, Logic, Etc.. That of course is going to run you a pretty penny. For a digital setup that's where I would start first is the computer. Make sure that computer has a lot of RAM and processing power. 2-4 gigs is standard with 4 probably going to be the best for todays programs. Some people may not agree with me but M-Audio has a lot of quality cheap Midi controllers and interfaces for a digital studio. I would start there and then research the environment you're going to record in (the sound of the room if you need any extra sound proofing). If you'd prefer an analog set up that's a different story. I'd learn about signal flow and mixing boards and how you're going to route your music to a recording. Hope that helps.

All blessing onto H.I.M.
I am a beginner in the recording world, I have engaged in the music for at least 14 years but never really recorded any music. I'd like to produce and promote. Any advice(equipment,school,advertising,etc..) at a low cost until I can stack my coins?
