Want more clients? Date your heart out

So you're probably wondering....what does one thing have to do with another? Interestingly enough, there is A LOT that dating can teach you about your business and how to successfully work with clients. Here are the five key lessons I've learned about entrepreneurship from being single in the city.

1. Be clear about who you are and what you have to offer. It's so important to let your clients know what you do and how you can help them. If you're not clear on what it is you do, they won't be either. The more articulate you are about who you are and what you do, the more quickly and easily clients will be able to recognize if you're the right person for them to be working with.

2. Be clear about what you're looking for. At the same time, it's important that the clients you work with are clients you WANT to work with. Starting your own business isn't about working with people who aren't compatible with you. You want to work with your ideal clients who will get great results from working with you. Just as clients choose whether they are going to work with you, it's important that you also make a conscious decision about who you do and do not want to work with.

3. Stand your ground and honor your values. There are times when you may really wonder whether your ideal client is out there - whether the person you dream up really exists. They. Do. Keep the faith, know that you deserve to be working with amazing, high achieving clients, and don't compromise what matters most to you. For anyone.

4. Not everyone is going to like you, and that's okay. Going along with the previous point, not everyone is going to be your ideal client - so don't expect them to be. Just like you sometimes need to kiss a few frogs before you meet your prince or princess, you sometimes need to meet a few non-ideal clients before the right ones start coming out of the woodwork.

5. Listen to your gut - those nagging whispers are not going to go away. If something doesn't feel right - whether that's a client you're working with, or the path you're business has taken - really LISTEN to what the feeling is trying to tell you. As much as you would probably love for it to disappear, I'm going to let you know, here and now, that it's not going to. So just get quiet, listen to what the whispers are saying, and you'll soon figure out your next best move.
