I HAVE BEEN PAYING SALLIE MAE FOR 17 YEARS NOW. 32,000 LOAN IS NOW DOWN TO 28,000 . I RETIRE IN 8 MONTHS. TRIED TO GET IT FORGIVEN, BUT I WAS TOLD I HAD TO WORK 10 MORE YEARS IN A PUBLIC SERVICE JOB. I HAVE WORKED NOW FOR 27 YEARS SINCE I MADE A LOAN. I AM TELLING PEOPLE NOW I CANNOT FIND A WAY OUT. DONT TAKE OUT A LOAN. PLEASE.

Hi Matt! Good post. I agree that if student loans have a high interest rate that is between 6% and 8%, it is difficult to pay off student loan and save for retirement. YOUR LOAN GETS WRITTEN OFF AFTER 25 YEARS OF PAYEMENTS?? WHO WOULD WANT TO HAVE STUDENT LOAN HANGING AROUND THAT LONG ANYWAYS??
